Dinner

No photo of tonight's dinner makings.  I had to whip it together fast to feed the hungry crowd.  Carter had a friend sleep over and we went sledding.  We got home late picking up Quin, who slept over a friends house last night as well.

As soon as we got home from Wegmans I made dinner.  Fettuccine Alfredo w/ chicken & broccoli.  You want to know how I know it was a good dinner?  The children needed no correction during dinner.  It was quiet and you could hear them chewing.  James thanked me at least 3x for the great tasting meal.  I put my new cookbook to good use.  The $5 dinner Mom cookbook  was the best gift for Christmas.  (Thanks Quintin)

On page 59 is her recipe for Fettuccine Alfredo.  It is made with a basic white sauce with some Parmesan cheese added.  Oh, my how easy and simple it was!  The recipe for the sauce is on page 276.  I made it with ingredients already in my pantry.  I cost no more than $0.70 to make the sauce.  Added some chicken I had in the freezer i bought a mega pack of.   Steamed some broccoli and sliced up a  loaf of Pane Italian bread I got free using double $1 coupons at Wegmans.  Oh what a wonderful meal.  James had 2 helpings and Jackson, age 2 2/3 yrs. finished off the broccoli!

Make this when you don't know what to make and your family will devour it as mine did!

Thank you Erin Chase for you amazing blessing of a cookbook!

Homemade Pretzels

Our pretzels turned out great.  I am sooooooo going to do this again and soon.  I could eat all of them!  I was surprised they were so good.  Don't know why  I was surprised, but I was.  Jackson helped me make the dough and the other boys helped me form the pretzels.  Here is the link for the recipe- www.allrecipe.com/recipe/Mall-pretzels/Detail.aspx

Hope you can make some for you family soon!

Here some are all ready for a baking soda bath and to be placed on a baking sheet.  The boys helped roll out the dough and shape them.  It was like playing with play dough I told them.
(anyone know why you give them a bath with water and baking soda?)

Baked them in the oven for 8 min.
Then dipped them in melted butter. Oh, so yummy!

We dipped them in  butter then added cinnamon sugar and others had just salt.

The boys loved them!  That's all that mattered.

What' cooking now?

I have promised the boys to make homemade pretzels today.  It is almost time to make dinner, so now is a good time to start.  By the time the pretzel making mess is cleaned up it will be time to make the dinner mess.  What's cooking now? Open Face Tacos...I found it on another blog and can't remember which one.  As soon as I remember I will give her the credit.  So it is off the the red Kitchen Aid mixer with no dough hook.  Where is my dough hook?  It just vanished one day.  To be honest I think hubby put it away in the wrong spot and I can't find it after about 6 months now.  I have searched my cupboards a zillion times and no luck.

I can't wait for the pretzels to be ready... I love soft pretzels!

Waffle time day 4!

These are so yummy. I am so overly happy that my Mom gave this to me. The boys continue to enjoy hot Belgin Waffles each morning. Day 4 of eating them and still going.
Happy boys with happy bellies full of waffles again. Kedall ate 2 1/2 this morning. I was surprised he could fit it all in.

The waffles made it on the plates for 4 days in a row now. Even though they said they didn't want them again. I asked them this morning what they wanted and they all said waffles. Except Jamison and Jackson. They are not fans of pancakes and waffles. My 2 youngest boys enjoyed a bowl of cereal. Jackson is not a big eater, so what wever he eats I am glad he is eating. He eats like a bird. A little bit here, a little bit there. He is not a fan of sweets, neither is Jamison. They love fruit. Anyway...

it's waffle time!

The mess is so worth it. I need to make the batter the night before to save some time. My oldest 3 boys and hubby each eat 2.

Here it is open and used. Oh, so yummy!

What our plates looked like after we all ate homemade waffles for breakfast day 3.

What fun we are having with our waffle maker I got as a gift from my Mom on Christmas.

It sure is messy making homemade waffle. Looks like a disaster hit.

Here is a photo of some of the finished gingerbread men & women. I ate some of the leftover frosting and am regretting it. Sweetness in my mouth is too much. I need to go brush my teeth and go to bed.
I almost forgot to share the recipe. I got it from a young friend of mine from college. She posted it on Facebook and I looked into it. It has butter in it! Yummy! www.mccormick.com Gingerbread Men recipe. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

Gingerbread Men

At the house baking gingerbread men. i mad the dough on Wednesday afternoon. The boys were a bit impaitient. They wanted them done already, It smells so amazing in the kitchen. Only if you could smell it. Does smell-o-vison exsist?

I even cut out a few girl gingerbread men. Well, I guess they would be gingerbread girls then, right? Ha ha ha Girl gingerbread men? That sounds a bit suspisious. That reminds me of a memory from church many years ago when I was a young teen. We had a guy come to church in a dress. I still remember it. Anyway, like that has anything to do with the cookies...

I just left this for a moment to take more cookies out/in the oven. Well, I just about had to take one of my gingerbread girls the E.R. Her arm got stuck under the wire of the cooling rack. It almost broke off. What is the cost of a cast on a gingerbread girl these days? (I am kidding)

Sine I am still new at this blogging thing, I need to find out how to take pics with my web cam and not my camera. It would be so much easier. I can do it on Facebook. I know some of you are saying right now how easy it is and you can't believe I don't know how to. Thanks for making me laugh. Which reminds me, I have laughed alot today. More than most days, what's up with that?

Well, I am off to roll out more little men. It is hard to keep 6 little fingers off these yummy looking cookies. We will have fun later decorating them. Yeah for sugar!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
